I'd like my blog to start on a positive note. That being said, a few days ago, I had the pleasure of attending a wonderful benefit for the Grayson's Gift Foundation. The foundation promotes awareness and provides aid for children and families in need who are struggling with cancer.
This family went to the beach with their twin boys and one fell and hit his head. They took him in to get checked for a possible concussion, and found out he had a brain tumor :( so sad. But so great that this family is continuing to bring awareness to this issue and honoring the doctors who work so hard at Children's Hospital LA. I could not even imagine what it feels like...made me think about my little brothers. And God knows how many times they've hit their head. I was very touched by all of the stories of loss, struggle, and survival that were shared that night.
The event was at Hotel Casa Del Mar in Santa Monica which was BEAUTIFUL! I even mentioned to Johnny that we could look into having our wedding there. It was really sophisticated glam with a touch of old school class. (maybe a little too snooty for our wedding) Of course I went straight to the open bar for a makers and coke.
I was really excited about all of the appetizers. (I love little appetizers) They had these mini cheeseburgers on a toothpick that melted in your mouth. Yum. And an amazing live band called Leftover Cuties. I felt like I walked into the 1920's or 30's....Loved it. I'd like to see them again.
There was so much Lakers merchandise to bid on it was crazy. Leslie would have been excited....and an original Andy Warhol sold in the silent auction for only $3,000. And, it was autographed...
I thought that was quite a small price, but I don't really know how much art goes for nowadays...or ever. But hey, it's for the kids...and I'm sure they raised a lot of money, which makes me happy.
I went with my date (who's night was made when he met the most interesting man in the world)
and the lead actress in the film I'm currently working on to promote it on the red carpet. Delphine Chaneac is a really sweet French actress who isn't a household name yet, but I'm starting to think she will be soon. She was the alien-demon baby in Splice, and is working on some interesting projects in development. Maybe she'll be from France what Carey Mulligan is from London (or wherever Carey is from).
While I waited for the valet to get my car I took a deep breath of fresh ocean air and thought about my little brothers. I am so thankful that they are alive, healthy, and happy. :)
