I absolutely love that there is something to do every single day and night of the week in Los Angeles. One minute I'm watching the (absolutely horrible I know) Dancing with the Stars results show, and the next I'm dancing in the Viper Room. I also love that I can leave the house looking like a hot mess, but still feel comfortable being in public in the city. In a matter of about 10 mins, I put on my wrinkled flannel, jeans, boots, and eyeliner...and we were out the door. (plus, viper room is so dark anyways) so whatever.
I actually went to see Killabite, who I saw a few weeks ago at the Green Door through a friend of a friend. So cute. It's this husband and wife, and they're like intergalactic space robots. It's funky, psychedelic, with a hint of 80's. Their set is accompanied with hardcore lasers and a light show, which sounds weird, but is actually really cool. Anyway, they were supposed to go on at 11:45, and didn't start until freakin 1 am, and I had work in the morning, so Johnny and I only stayed for a few songs. "Follow Me Home" is my fav song so far.
Before Killabite however, I was pleasantly surprised. After getting our drinks downstairs, we walked up to a crowded, sweaty, muffy room of people dancing and rocking out like crazy to this Ron Jeremy-looking dude in his f-ing underwear.
Johnny and I gave each other the "what the fuck?" look at first, but literally after one minute of listening to Har Mar Superstar, we, or at least I, was hooked. Seriously, this dude is insane, and his songs are quite catchy. I liked "Tall Boy" and Johnny liked "Almond Joy" Apparently this guy has been around for a while and has quite a following...but he is new to me. He was really fun to see live.
We also saw this indie-rock band Queen Caveat...They were pretty good too. (I think everyone sounds good in the Viper Room...maybe it's in the sound system...or maybe I was still a little high) Anyway, the band rocked, and the lead singer is the offspring of Mick Jagger and Lady Gaga. Not really, but she has an amazing stage presence and had the voice to back it up. She won me over with her cover of Rage's "Killing In The Name" Any girl that can scream like that and carry that song all the way through ROCKS in my book.
Overall, great random Tuesday night. I really wish I was around during the old school Viper Room days...
I love being spontaneous...so much more fun that way...no expectations and build up. Other highlights: VIP meter right next to Viper and the bartender said I was sexy for drinking a Makers and Coke. I think I'll start calling them MCs. No, that's lame.
